MAM donates maize to Salima

Former Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Dr Uladi Musa has advised Muslims in the country to allow Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) continue with its development agenda.

Dr Musa who is also Acting President of People’s Party (PP) made the appeal when National Chairman for MAM, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad, distributed bags of maize to six hundred families from TA’s Maganga, Ndindi and Kambwili in Salima district.

“MAM has the passion to poor Malawians as it is carrying out a number of development programs,” Mussa said.

He however faulted its constitution arguing that a number of chapters are not in line with Islamic principles.

In his remarks, Member of Parliament for Salima Central, Felix Jumbe, commended MAM for the gesture saying it has come in an opportune time because many people in the district are in dire hunger.

“MAM is doing a great job in making sure that Malawians are not dying of famine,” said Jumbe.

He however urged MAM to introduce irrigation farming in the district because it is the only solution to looming hunger.

Last week, MAM reached out with bags of maize to hunger stricken families in Thyolo, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Machinga and Zomba districts.
