As the world is commemorating International Human rights day, Palestinian advocate in Malawi has expressed dismay with the world’s inaction in strengthening rights and protection of people of Gaza.
In an interview with Radio Islam Sheikh Muslim Abbas Vinjenje said it is heartbreaking that on a day meant to honor human rights, rights of Palestinians are still being ignored and infringed.
Sheikh Vinjenje adds that this reflects the world’s ongoing unequal treatment that persists when it comes to human rights.
“It would have been better if the day reflected on lives of people of Palestine who have not known peace for decades now,” says Sheikh Vinjenje
Meanwhile, Hamas says continued Israeli “violations” of Gaza ceasefire have left no ground to begin phase-two negotiations, warning that progress is impossible until mediators force Israel to fully comply with the first stage
Hamas political bureau member Husam Badran stated that Israel had failed to meet phase one commitments, citing closure of Rafah crossing, obstruction of shelter deliveries, reduced humanitarian aid and continued killings as well as home demolitions
Gaza authorities say the truce has been breached at least 738 times since taking effect in October.
