Malawi, UNESCO to hold 2024 National Conference for Creative and Heritage Industries
Ministry of local government in collaboration with Malawi National Commission for UNESCO, will host the 2024 National Conference for the Creative and Heritage Industries from 3rd to 4th December
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Owen Chomanika, has announced during a press conference that the conference aims at strengthening institutional capacities for implementation of Malawi National Cultural Policy and National Arts and Heritage Act
He states that the initiative aligns with UNESCO 2005 Convention on Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
Chomanika said the conference, themed ‘Empowering Malawi’s Creative and Heritage Industries for Sustainable Development in arts and Heritage sectors will foster discussions on policy issues and research that are critical to the growth and sustainability of the sectors.
Acting Deputy Executive Secretary for Malawi National Commission for UNESCO, David Mulera said the conference will cover several key topics, including establishment of an arts and heritage promotion fund and renewal of the national cultural policy.
