Malawi Prison Service MPS says has intensified hygiene measures aimed at preventing the outbreak of cholera in the correctional facilities.
This comes at a time Malawi has recorded 16 cholera cases since 11th December 2025.
According to the service spokesperson, Steve Meke although facilities have not registered a confirmed cholera case, the measures are necessary to protect lives of inmates.
Meke says so far prisons have adequate hygiene related facilities to support efforts aimed at containing cholera.
