Malawi president appoints new leader of house in parliament

The state president professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Dr. George Chaponda as Leader of the House in Parliament effective today.

A press release from the state house says the appointment has been necessitated by the recent appointment of Fransis Kasaila as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation.

Signed by press secretary to president Mgeme Kalirani the statement says it is necessary to allow Kasaira effectively attend to Malawi’s international affairs which often demand a lot of travelling out of the country.

“Therefore it became necessary to allow someone to take over the position of Leader of the House so that both positions are given due attention they deserve,” reads the press release.

Professor Mutharika has thanked Kasaila for performing exceptionally well as Leader of the House during his term.

He has wished Dr George Chaponda all the best in his work.
