Parliament rejects Phiri’s appointment in Service Commission
As parliamentarians start meeting for the fifth time in 50th session of national assembly, economic expert has advised Members of Parliament and government to prioritize issues of Affordable Inputs Program AIP and food security.
Speaking to radio Islam, Adam Chikapa Gaisi said currently the future of Affordable Inputs Program is gloomy while the country is fast approaching rainy season.
Gaisi is of the view that availability of fertilizer in good time in Malawi will help to reduce effect of shortage of maize next year which has a direct impact to prices of commodities on the market.
He therefore said it is very important for members of parliament to discuss honestly the future of AIP this year for ordinary farmers to have hope and prepare for farming activities.
Gaisi also advised parliamentarians meeting in the august house to advise the executive arm of government to stop over expenditure that is eroding economy of the country.
Recently, government through ministry of agriculture announced the reduction in number of beneficiaries to AIP to 400,000 this year.
