Love Justice Malawi trains police officers on human trafficking
Love Justice Malawi is training at least 96 police officers in Mangochi on human trafficking, a thing which authorities in the lake shore district have described as proactive in dealing with trafficking in persons cases
Opening the four day training on 18th May Mangochi police station officer in charge Francis Chisoti welcomed the training saying being the border district the malpractice is expected to be reduced when the officers are equipped with basic skills
Chisoti said according to findings the victims are forcibly or fraudulently taken because they are deprived of the benefits one would get.
“However they face many challenges such as forced labour, sexual exploitation, overcrowding and obscenity hence the need for the law enforcers to have ab obligation to root it out,” Chisoti
He encouraged the participants to take the course seriously and continue patrolling unchartered routes which the traffickers use in order to make Mangochi a safe place
In his remarks Frank Banda the training coordinator for Love Justice echoed that their organization will make sure that police officers are imparted with desired knowledge
Banda singled out that lack of knowledge in handling of the cases has contributed to the loss of cases in court and Love Justice Malawi expects the officers to apply the knowledge after the training
Speaking on behalf of the participants sub inspector Gift Maggie Karoti said the training will help them to be able to detect these cases during the execution of their daily police work
