Local Govt bye-elections on August 25
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has said local government bye-elections will be conducted on August 25 in all five wards whose councillors died.
Chairperson for media, civic and voter education committee Commissioner Nancy Tembo made the announcement during the opening of training for MEC stringers and journalists on election reporting.
Tembo said the training was organized to equip journalists with knowledge of the by-elections and skills of reporting them.
“I therefore urged you to be neutral, non partisan and treat all candidates equally to avoid inciting conflicts during the forth-coming elections,” said Tembo.
Commenting on the development deputy director of Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority MACRA Francis Bisika asked all candidates to stick to issue based campaign.
“I ask all media houses to support the civic and voter education campaign,” Bisika appealed.
Local government by-elections will be conducted in Khwawa ward in Karonga district, Chibanja ward in Mzuzu, Msikisi ward in Mangochi, Zomba central ward and Luchenza ward.
