Lilongwe tops List of NRB Citizens Registration

National Registration Bureau NRB has said Lilongwe is topping the list of people of 16 years and above   who have been registered through its campaigns since 2016

Speaking during a press briefing Principal Secretary of the bureau Mphatso Sambo says Likoma is on the lowest position as the bureau has registered almost 12.3 million people.

Sambo says among them 141 000 people will not be able to vote in 2025 General Elections because they will not reach attain age of casting the ballot.

He said Malawi has done well in registration of citizens as compared to other countries

Sambo reiterated that NRB is facing challenges as is the case with any project but are rectifying them hence printing more this year as compared to other years.

He said some people have not collected their national ID’s but will get them by the end of September 2024.

One of the officials of NRB said there are a lot children who have not been registered that were born before the year 2015 and other who are being born in the villages not hospitals.
