Legal expert quashes calls for establishment of specialized division to try financial crimes.
Legal expert has quashed calls for establishment of specialized division to try cases of fraud and financial crimes.
This comes following reports that people are asking the judiciary to set up a special tribunal to try cases of people suspected to have misappropriated covid-19 funds.
Speaking with Radio Islam, professor Edge Kanyongolo of Chancellor College says he does not agree with the calls citing other cases which require speedy prosecution.
Kanyongolo says the judiciary should have enough human resource to try all cases saying the delay in prosecution is affecting justice delivery.
According to high court registrar Gladys Gondwe plans of introducing the special tribunal to try financial crimes are at advanced stage.
“We wait for the law amendment to enable the establishment of the specialized court,” Gondwe
Gondwe said they have so far started meeting relevant stakeholders to ensure that this has been done soonest.
