ICC vows to speed investigations on Myanmar’s genocide on Muslims

International Criminal Court ICC has vowed to accelerate an investigation into alleged genocide by Myanmar’s military against Muslims in Rohingya, after its chief prosecutor met survivors in Bangladesh.

Karim Khan arrived in Dhaka for a four-day visit to hear testimony from those affected by the violence.

He met the survivors in Cox’s Bazar, the world’s largest refugee settlement, which hosts about 1 million Rohingya, most of them fled Myanmar’s state during a military-led crackdown in 2017.

Khan told reporters in Dhaka that he hoped to be back in Bangladesh next year to speak to more people.

He thanked Bangladeshi people for hosting and providing humanitarian support to Rohingya Muslims, although their country is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Refugee Convention.
