Hospital demands money from bereaved families
It has been revealed that Karonga district hospital is demanding money from bereaved families to keep bodies of their relatives in its mortuary for more than a day.
Confirming the development spokesperson of Karonga district hospital Harold Mtambo said it is so because the mortuary has developed a fault which the technicians at the health facility have failed to maintain.
Mtambo said clients who want to keep the bodies for more than a day are paying some money to mortuary attendants for embalming.
“Management agreed to do that as part of protecting bodies from decomposing,” revealed Mtambo.
According to Mtambo the agreement was made some months ago.
He then appealed for assistance from well wishers saying the problem is affecting bereaved families who are failing to find transport bodies of their relatives.
