High court nullifies parliamentary elections in Lower shire
High court in Blantyre has nullified results of parliamentary elections in Nsanje north, Chikwawa east and Nsanje central constituencies
High court judge Sylvester Kalembera has ordered that the elections be held within 60 days
Candidates of Malawi Congress Party took Malawi Electoral Commission MEC to court for declaring Democratic Progressive Party DPP legislators Francis Kasaira, Esther Mcheka Chilenje and United Democratic Front UDF legislator Sam Khumbanyiwa as winners of May 21 2019 parliamentary elections
Those who challenged MEC’s declaration of the results are MCP candidates Foster Thipa, Enock Chizuzu and Kafandikhale Mandevana
Meanwhile, Wester Kossam lawyer for the complainants has said “am happy that justice has prevailed.”
Last year high court also nullified results of 2019 parliamentary elections in three constituencies in Mangochi and Phalombe districts hence declared them vacant and ordered a rerun.
DPP and UDF backed candidates won the elections defeating MCP, independent and UTM candidates
