Govt compensate 17 people affected with the construction of Liwonde Bridge
Ministry of Water Development and Irrigation has compensated 17 people affected with the construction of Liwonde Bridge on Shire River.
Lands officer for Machinga district Aubrey Jaza said that the upgrading of Liwonde Bridge on Shire River will affect 29 people whose business range from shops, tourist destinations and farm land.
Jaza said the ministry has dished out K144, 560, 500 as a compensation package to 17 people.
He said among the 29 people affected 12 people own land which will be turned into camp site for the constructers.
The bridge will be constructed with funding from World Bank and the Ministry of Water is implementing a 15 year Shire river basin management programme to generate sustainable social economic and environmental benefits by effective and collaborative plan, develop and manage the shire river basins natural resources.
