Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has ordered civil servants in Balaka district who have benefited from the Farm Input Subsidy Program (FISP) to return the inputs to relevant authorities.
According to a letter addressed to Balaka District Commissioner, the ministry received a report that 52 civil servants were registered to benefit from FISP and 18 have already redeemed their inputs.
The ministry has described the development as “a serious breach of guidelines in the ongoing 2025- 2026 FISP.”
The letter signed by Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has therefore ordered to immediately return the inputs to the SFFRFM depots to benefit eligible beneficiaries.
The ministry has however also asked the District Commissioner to discipline all Agriculture Field Officers implicated in the matter and submit a report on the findings to the ministry.
