Government has gazetted New Taxation Acts after President Professor Peter Mutharika assented to them on 20th December, 2025.
They include Taxation Amendment Act, Money Transfer Levy and Value Added Tax Amendment Act VAT which has been raised from 16.5% to 17.5 %.
A gazette published by clerk of parliament Fiona Kalemba indicates that newly enacted laws are now operational.
The taxation Acts were passed by parliament during the recent mid-year budget review meeting
Mutharika has also assented to two loan authorization bills, allowing Minister of Finance to borrow €38 million, about K77 billion, for second phase of M1 road rehabilitation project
“The other approved loan is 27 million Dollars, equivalent to K47 billion, earmarked for Jenda Water Supply and Sanitation Project,” says Kalemba
This now means government has formally gazzetted the 8.6 trillion kwacha revised 2024/2025 revised budget authorizing Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamveka to utilise the blue print until 31st March 2026
