Former US President Indicted on Election Crimes
Former US President Donald Trump has been indicted on charges of election crimes after a two-year investigation into his efforts to overturn his 2020 defeat to Joe Biden in US state of Georgia.
The 77-year-old Republican presidential candidate faces trials in New York, Washington DC and Florida in three other cases.
The criminal case, which is Donald Trump’s fourth indictment this year, comes as he leads the field of Republicans seeking their party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
The inquiry by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis began shortly after the release of a recording of a January 2, 2021, phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State
In the call, the then-president suggested that the secretary could “find 11,780 votes” – just enough to overtake Biden.
