Finance Minister surprised with reports on IMF not giving Malawi credit

Government has been surprised with reports that director of International Monetary Fund IMF has said the organization will not give Malawi another loan because it has huge credit

Minister of finance and economic development Sosten Gwengwe has disclosed this during a press briefing where various ministers were unpacking success of United Nations General Assembly UNGA

Gwengwe said IMF team is in the country discussing with responsible officials on the need to give Malawi the loan through credit facility

“Malawi is discussing with International Monetary Fund to intervene in the scarcity of forex in the country through provision of balance of payment support,” Gwengwe

Gwengwe lamented that some Malawians do not wish well their country hence asking them to stop for the prosperity of the nation
