Farmers Union of Malawi bemoans farmers selling of AIP to vendors.
Farmers Union of Malawi FUM has bemoaned the tendency of some farmers in Malawi who are selling Affordable Farm Input (AIP)fertilizers to vendors.
The development comes few days after government started selling the fertilizer in all parts of the country.
Speaking to Radio Islam, FUM president Frighton Jolomole said reports have reached his office that some farmers in other parts of Dowa district are buying the fertilizer at cheaper price and selling it to vendors at as low as k 15,000 kwacha.
Njolomole said the development is sad adding government made this commitment to bail out less privileged farmers.
He said its very unfair for the vendors to take away fertilizer from the poor farmers yet they would want to buy their produce during the harvest season.
“Instead of leaving the fertilizer to the poor farmer so that he can harvest very well but they are now enticing them to sell”, adds Njolomole.
