DPP passes Resolution on regional positions

DPP passes Resolution on regional positions

Democratic Progressive Party DPP has passed a resolution that says positions for national governing council will be distributed according to regions.

In statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary Shadric Namalomba says the arrangement has been made in order to evenly share positions to all corners of the country.

The statement has therefore listed the positions to be competed for solely by candidates who are permanent residents of the respective regions.

But reacting to the arrangement, one of the political commentators in the country, George Phiri, has strongly condemned DPP for promoting regionalism.

Phiri said in a democratic society, the party was supposed to splash the positions and allow delegates to make their choices not based on regions.

He has also faulted the timing arguing that candidates will not have time to go to party members for nominations.

DPP is expected to hold the elective conference from 17th to 18th August this year in Blantyre.
