Director of Public Prosecutions withdraws appeal against Chisale’s acquittal

Director of Public Prosecutions DPP has withdrawn its appeal against the acquittal of Norman Chisale, personal bodyguard of former president Peter Mutharika

In a notice to Lilongwe High court chief state advocate Pirirani Masanjala says the DPP withdraws the case which was filed on 8th August 2024

Director of Public Prosecutions had appealed against the judgment which was delivered by Lilongwe magistrate court

Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe acquitted Chisale of all six counts he was answering because there was no evidence to warrant the charges against the accused.

The court has blamed the police investigators in the case for doing a bad job.

But the director of public prosecutions appealed to High court because was not satisfied with the judgment that was given on 24th July 2024

The DPP said the lower court erred in law in misapplying the definition of the offence of use of insulting language and intimidation
