Court grants bail to DPP Vice President
Lilongwe magistrate court has granted bail to Vice president of Democratic Progressive Party DPP in central region Alfred Gangata.
In his ruling Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda said the state failed to provide evidence that he has deployed agents to tamper with witnesses in the case.
The court has ordered Gangata to pay 1 million kwacha cash bond and be reporting to police apart from MRA among other bail conditions.
Gangata was arrested on Monday on allegations of possessing a fraudulent MSCE Certificate but on Wednesday police officers moved him between two magistrates courts of Lilongwe and Mkulula in an ambulance
His lawyers questioned such conduct but the state said it was a precautionary measure because had been informed that Gangata was not feeling well adding he was the first person to use the new ambulance
