Concerned Citizens petition Machinga District Council over Development

Concerned citizens of Lisanjala Ward in Machinga-Likwenu Constituency, say are discontented with the way developmental projects are being done in the area of T/A Nkula.

In a 25 paged petition to the district council, their spokesperson, Emmanuel Malunga, say they feel there is no accountability and transparency in the running of the council.

The citizens have also demanded the Council to complete construction of Mwamadi health clinic which will serve a number of people in the area.

Malunga says the Council must account for GESD, DDF, CDF as well as Local Revenue collections and start the construction of roads in the ward, take full and progressive responsibility of constructing Ukasi Bridge whose funds have already been used.

According to him they have information that Fiscal and Fraud Police are conducting investigations on the use of CDF in various districts hence asking them to do the same in Machinga-Likwenu constituency since 2019 to date.

In his response Machinga District Council spokesperson, Martin Chiwanda, confirmed receipt of the petition, adding they are still going through it as there are many issues raised.

Chiwanda has since indicated that the council will not be compelled to bow-down to the 1st November ultimatum.

We tried to hear the side of Machinga Likwenu Member of Parliament, Bright Nsaka but he was not picking our calls.
