Communities Fault Politicians and Chiefs

People of Mpemba ward in Blantyre south west constituency have expressed disappointment with the conduct of politicians and some chiefs of disrupting developmental activities.

The concerns have been raised in Katsala Bande village when National Initiative for Civic Education NICE Trust conducted an electoral messages dissemination and community participation in democratic process.

According to them are being threatened when demand transparency and accountability on some initiatives are being implemented in the area.

Speaking on behalf of his fellow residents Andrea Luka  also bemoaned the tendency of councilors and members of parliament of ditching their areas after winning elections making it difficult for the villagers to seek for clarity on various issues affecting the people.

Representative of Village Head Kanyola who also spoke on behalf of other chiefs, Kenneth Lexa while not necessarily admitting to the allegations said such chiefs are dismissed when found.

Lexa said the area was very big for one Member of Parliament to reach out with activities hence thanked government for dividing the area into two constituencies.

NICE Trust Programs Officer for Blantyre, Glory Ngosi Maulidi concurs with Luka noting the gap between leaders and their subjects with regards to implementation of developmental activities.

Maulidi hailed people of the area for voicing out their concerns through the meeting and hopes that have been empowered to demand for good governance.

She however decried lack of commitment from the youth to take part in the democratic processes.

The Blantyre NICE Programs Officer has also urged the people to register for the forthcoming general elections to be able to choose leaders who can be able to develop the country.

According to Ngosi registration on the 2025 general elections for Blantyre will commence on 9 to 22 November.
