Ministry of Transport and Public Works has launched Construction Industry Regulatory Authority (CIRA), a new body replacing National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC).
Presiding over the launch Minister of Transport and Public Works, Feston Kaupa says CIRA aims to regulate construction sector, enforce stronger standards and ensure quality infrastructure
Kaupa said announced that under the new Act, all public and private construction projects will undergo pre- and post-construction audits to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and financial standards.
He said the transformation marks a major step towards improving construction standards and protecting public resources
CIRA Chief Executive Officer Gerald Khonje described the launch as a significant milestone, saying the Authority will combine regulatory and developmental roles to reshape the industry.
Khonje added that CIRA can now take action on substandard work.
