China donates K20 million, 100, 000 disposable masks to Malawi schools
China has donated K20 million and 100, 000 disposable masks towards the fight against Corona virus in primary and secondary schools across Malawi.
Chinese ambassador, Liu Hongyang made the donation in Lilongwe through ‘Shaping Our Future Foundation’ launched by first lady, Monica Chakwera.
Hongyang described the donation as a response to reopening of schools and ensuring safety of children.
“The monetary donation is aimed at assisting vulnerable girls in disadvantaged areas facing difficulty in paying school fees and other areas, to help them attain a better future,” said Hongyang
The First Lady said the donation marks a visible testament of an exemplary gesture by a true friend of Malawi.
Deputy Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, urged community leaders and parents to send learners back to school and ensure safety as well as protective materials are used to contain spread of the virus.
