CFTC to review Competition and Fair Trading ACT

Competition and Fair Trading Commission CFTC says will next week commence consultation meetings in the process of reviewing Competition and Fair Trading ACT of 1998.

CFTC acting executive director Apoche Itimu said a competition and fair trading bill has already been drafted and expects the review process to be concluded in 90 days.

Itimu said gaps that are in the current laws have made it difficult for CFTC to enforce competition and consumer welfare hence the review.

She further said lack of technical expertise, shortage of staff and economic challenges the country is currently experiencing are also affecting discharging of CFTC’s mandate.
