BT chiefs demand Government’s apology
Concerned Chiefs in Blantyre have demanded an apology within 30 days from Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development over government’s decision to abolish chieftaincy in urban areas.
The chiefs said this in Blantyre when briefing journalists on their position on the matter.
Group Village headman Buleya of Traditional Authority Kapeni said the letter they had received from government of stopping them from performing their duties as chiefs is questionable.
Buleya said “the local government ministry must know that they are not civil servants but custodians of land and people.”
He further said any government official has no power to stop the chieftaincy as it is a lineage and tradition.
