Balaka launches catchment conservation and management campaign

Balaka district agriculture coordinating committee has launched catchment conservation and management campaign for farmers to adopt modern farming practices that would resist dry spells

Speaking at Chiendausiku ground chief agriculture extension officer for Machinga ADD Allan Kaliwo said forest and land restoration practices are vital for improved agricultural yields

He said the event gave opportunity to appreciate how farmers in TA Nsamala are adopting climate smart agriculture through farmers’ field schools and cooperative

Kaliwo said they have seen that communities in the district are restoring damaged forests and adopting Mbeya manure among other in order to conserve moisture in their fields

Chairperson of Balaka district council Pharao Kambiri said will work with various authorities to promote forests and land conservation policies
