Malawi College of Health Sciences students contemplate to obtain an injunction

Despite the management of the Malawi College of Health Sciences MCHS issuing a directive that all students leave the college the Lilongwe campus, some of the concerned students are contemplating obtain an injunction stopping the indefinite closure of the campus.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, one of the students at MCHS Lilongwe campus who opted for anonymity faulted the ministry of health for failing to respond to the teachers’ salaries issue which dates back to 2016 when the staff had another strike.

The source said the development will affect their studies as their lessons have been halted.

In a letter dated 9 October 2018 signed by workers welfare committee chairperson, Hellen Mwafulirwa they accuse the management for failing to remit pension to Nico Company by September 30, put members on group life cover from July 2018 and for laxity in ensuring that their proposed salary structure and conditions of service are improved.

Mwafulirwa said the sit in-follows governments’ failure to respond to the demands delivered in August 2018.

Efforts to speak to ministry of health spokesperson Joshua Malango proved futile as he was not picking up his calls.
