In her rearks, Member of Parliament for Thyolo Thava constituency, Mary Navicha, commended FGRF for the intervention, noting that many households are currently facing severe hunger.
Navicha said nearly 60 % of families the area are food insecure due to the effects of climate change related cyclones and disasters that have been affecting the area hence which have disrupted livelihoods and food production including crop fields.
As Member of Parliament I decided to knock the door of FGRF, after noting that people in my area are going to bed on an empty stomach and they responded positively. This assistance has come a right time, the coming of this organisation is a blessing to people of Thyolo Thava”, she explained.
Navicha said the assistance has supported government’s efforts in ensuring that people are accessing food and therefore advised people to embrace winter cropping as it may help alleviate hunger faced by many families across the country.
One of the beneficiaries, James Makhwiyira from Chimbeta Village, expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying the support will help his family access meals during the fasting period.
