Ministry of finance has stressed that government is committed to ensuring inclusive economic growth through youth involvement in development.
Minister responsible Joseph Mwanamveka has said this during the youth pre budget consultation meeting held at Bingu International convention center in Lilongwe.
Mwanamvekha said government recognizes the potential of youth who make up 50% of the country’s population in driving innovation, entrepreneurship and change hence the meeting.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the government recognizes that the youth have potential in driving innovations, entrepreneurship as well as change, hence we, as government will put up initiatives that will support the youth. we understand that 50% of the country’s population are the youth who can benefit the country”. Mwamveka explained.
He said government is ready to revive and capacitate youth centered projects by proving skills and capital in the country.
Mwanamveka said Saudi Arabian and Qatar are proving employment opportunities as well as investments in Malawi.
In his remarks executive director for the National Youth council NYCOM Rex Chapota commended the ministry of finance for providing a youth friendly platform to contribute towards the national budget.
In her remarks Salome Kadanzira, Chairperson for the National Youth Network, said the Government of Malawi cannot perform effectively if it does not involve the youth.
She said young people are the country’s demographic dividend; however, they are not benefiting from this potential due to limited opportunities
