Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives CDEDI has called for investigation on how former President Lazarus Chakwera used the entire 67 billion kwacha budget in 6 months which was allocated to his office
Speaking during a media briefing in Blantyre, CDEDI executive director Sylvester Namiwa has challenged Southern African Development Community, Commonwealth and other international organizations to desist from engaging in any capacity of honour until he is cleared of any atrocities committed under his regime
Namiwa has urged Malawians to start a candid debate on who qualifies for the honour and privileges associated with office of former president of Malawi.
According to Namiwa, “CDEDI has agreed with sentiments made by a prominent Tanzanian civil society group, in reaction to the Commonwealth’s decision to engage Chakwera as a peace envoy to that country following the recent disputed elections.”
