10.9 Million Voters in Malawi 2025 Elections
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has said the projected eligible voters for 2025 general elections is 10.9 million people, marking a significant increase from 6.8 million in 2019 polls
Chairperson of MEC Justice Chifundo Kachale has told parliamentary committee that the figure is according to official data from National statistics office
Kachale says registration of voters in 6500 centres will commence on 16th September 2024 and the commission plans to award the contract of procuring elections devices next month
However ,the MEC Chair says all this depends on availability of forex but are engaging treasury about this risk
He has expressed concern on allegations by some political actors to distort voters’ roll by manipulating numbers of those eligible to obtain national ID
