109 Burundian Refugees Repatriated from Malawi
109 refugees from Burundi have been repatriated from Malawi to their country.
This is the second group after another of 38 Burundians was sent to the country and ministry of Homeland Security spokesperson, Peter Botha, says they are voluntary repatriations.
Botha says, they will continue to repatriate foreign nationals who express willingness of returning to their home countries in collaboration with UNCHR.
In his remarks, one of the repatriated Burundian nationals, Emmanuel Ndayezeye who has lived in Malawi for 9 years, says he has had a wonderful experience in the country and urged Malawians to continue being peace loving people.
According to UNHCR money amounting to over 139 million kwacha has been used in the repatriated of the 109 Burundian nationals.
It adds that currently, there are 400 Refugees who have expressed interest to be repatriated as soon as the opportunity comes.
However the figure is increasing because some individuals change their minds on the repatriation
In his remarks, general Secretary for Small Scale Business Operation of Malawi Tennyson Mulimbula has held the ministry for the move saying the development will help small scale Business Operations to flourish
Mulimbula has however asked government to ensure that all foreign nationals that are illegally plying subsistence businesses meant for Malawian traders are repatriated.
