Former Nigerian president to lead Election Observation Mission in Zimbabwe
Former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan is due in Zimbabwe ahead of the 23rd August general elections as head of Joint African Union (AU) and Common Market for East and Southern Africa (Comesa) Election Observation Mission
Jonathan will be assisted by former Ugandan Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.
According to a statement from AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, the joint team will consist of “73 short-term observers and three Core Team of electoral experts”.
The joint observer team, like other missions deployed in Zimbabwe, will issue its own preliminary findings report.
Jonathan will be the second former Nigerian president to lead an observer mission to Zimbabwe, after Olusegun Obasanjo led a team of 69 observers in 2013
