MAM appeals to Islamic organizations to help Muslims in hard to reach areas with iftar food packs

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has pleaded with Islamic organizations to help Muslims in hard to reach areas with iftar food packs during the fasting month of Ramadhan.

The appeal was made after Turkiye Diyanet Foundation distributed iftar packs to over 500 Muslim families in the districts of Phalombe, Chiradzulu and Mulanje.

Speaking on the sidelines of the distribution, MAM Acting Executive Secretary, Sheikh Rhaad Kangomba, said Muslims in rural areas are starving especially during the month of Ramadhan as most of them have nothing to break their fasting.

Sheikh Kangomba said this year’s Ramadhan has come at a time when people are going through hardship with the rising cost of living in the country.

He said the situation is worse for ultra-poor Muslims in remote areas hence calling for urgent consideration.

“I commended Turkey Diyanet Foundation for the support it renders to Muslims in the country,” Sheikh Kangomba

On his part, one of the officials from Turkey Diyanet Foundation, Sarigul Lutfullah, said the gesture has come following cordial relationship between people of Turkey and Malawi through MAM.

Lutfullah the further explained that “my organization will continue to assist Malawi in various programs.”

He therefore advised beneficiaries to share the little they have received with others as Islam encourages to love one another.

The packs are consist 20 kgs of maize flour, 1 litre of cooking oil, 1kg of beans, 3kgs of sugar among others.

Apart from iftar food packs program, Turkey Diyanet Foundation has also constructed solar powered water pumps in various parts of the country, providing scholarship to needy students and carrying out Qurban programs.
