CHRR condemns Malawi for voting against UN probe of Israel-Gaza conflict
Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation CHRR has condemned Malawi for rejecting the establishment of a commission of enquiry regarding the Palestine-Israel conflict.
CHRR executive director Michael Kaiyatsa has said this as Malawi and other 9 countries voted against United Nation’s resolution to institute an investigation on Israel’s continued atrocities on Palestinian citizens based in Gaza and West bank, yesterday.
According to Kaiyatsa Malawi cannot trade its interest in the expense of Human rights.
“The president missed opportunity in Parliament on Wednesday to declare the country’s position on the conflict is very disappointing in as far as promotion of human rights is concerned,” Kaiyatsa
Kaiyatsa further said Malawi is a signatory to several international human rights treaties including international universal declaration of human rights hence must be committed to ensuring peace between the two countries.
Political analyst Sherrif Kaisi also condemned Chakwera for telling Malawi parliament that he is not siding with any country in the Palestine-Israel conflict
