Turkish Islamic organization hands over solar powered boreholes in Malawi
As one way of increasing access to safe and clean water, Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) through a Turkish Islamic organization Diyanet has handed over solar powered boreholes in some districts of the eastern region.
Speaking with Radio Islam, Abdullah Mdala, one of MAM officials said Muslims and other people will benefit a lot from the Turkish Islamic NGO as it has lined up a number of development activities to deliver to Malawians.
Mdala said apart from state of the art six solar powered boreholes donated in Machinga, Balaka, Chiradzulu and Blantyre, Diyanet also distributed Ramadan food items to Muslims in Zomba.
Speaking to Malawian Muslims during the handover ceremony of the boreholes, Leader of delegation for Diyanet, Professor Ismail Guler, said “we came to Malawi to do a number of activities including the official handover of six solar powered boreholes which were completed last year and supervise construction works of six boreholes currently underway.”
Professor Guler further mentioned that the results of interviews of students to study in Turkey will be announced in June and selected candidate are expected depart in September 2021.
The delegation came into the country following several visits which the National Chairman for MAM, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad made to Turkey including the 2019 trip where he met the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
