Malawi rolls out AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has launched the roll out of AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine with a call to Malawians to take the vaccine.
Speaking during the launch at Zomba state house which is now covid-19 field hospital, Chakwera said the pandemic has caused a lot of problems in the country.
Chakwera said people should not be threatened by the rumors going around regarding the vaccine as it has been tested and approved by scientists both in the country and abroad.
He urged all leaders to tell their followers about the importance of vaccine so that they can fulfill their goals.
“I appeal to all Malawians not to relax on their adherence to covid-19 preventive measures,” Chakwera
The president, the first lady, former president Dr Joyce Banda and her husband received the vaccine at the end of the launch
Meanwhile, the vice president Dr Saulos Chilima has received the vaccine in Mzuzu.
Over 30, 000 health workers, people with underlining health problems and elders are the first targeted group of people to receive the vaccine.
Speaker of Parliament, UN Malawi resident coordinator, religious and traditional leaders were among the dignitaries who attended the launch
