Dedza residents demonstrate against ESCOM

Angry residents from Airfield in Dedza have demonstrated against a power outage which has affected their area for three weeks.

The residents stormed Dedza Police Station before they went to the District Commissioner’s offices where they demanded an audience with him.

According to one of the residents Wongani Zgambo, Escom transformer that served their area malfunctioned three weeks ago and since then it had yet to be replaced.

“Businesses had been disrupted and thieves had started taking advantage of the power outage to torment people in their homes,” Zgambo

Dedza District Council Spokesperson, Yohane Bilesi said they had been in contact with Escom officials who had given assurance that a new transformer would be installed in a weeks’ time.

He assured the irate residents that he would contact Escom officials to look into their issue as a matter of urgency.
