82 000 more households to benefit from MEAP – Mulimakwenda
About 82 households are expected to be connected to national electricity grid by the end of June this year through the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP).
This comes after the Electricity supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has procured various materials for the new connections which include poles, conductors, and 92,000 electricity meters.
Speaking during a media tour at MEAP warehouse at Lunzu in Blantyre, ESCOM’s Chief Operations Officer, Eng Maxwell Mulimakwenda, called on all clients under the project to come forward and pay their connections fees as soon as possible.
Mulimakwenda said customers who cannot afford the full connection fee of K93, 300 can pay a deposit of K17, 475 and settle the balance in installments after being connected to the grid.
He has however warned customers against unscrupulous individuals who demand money to facilitate connections saying such cases should be reported to relevant authorities.
MEAP is a five year project that was launched in January 2020 with an aim of supporting the government of Malawi to increase access to electricity in the country with financial support from the World Bank.
