Roads Authority RA says 7 bridges along M1 and M5 Road have been damaged following persistent and heavy downpour being experienced across the country.
According to a statement signed by Roads Funds Chief Executive Officer Dr Ammiel Champiti the two affected bridges along M1 are Mpasadzi between Mphimwa and Chatoloma in Kasungu as well as Nkhamenya in Kasungu district.
Dr Champiti said “5 bridges damaged along M5 are Dwangwa, Kaombe, Ling’ona, Nchandilo and Bout in Nkhotakota district.”
He said Mota-Engil has been deployed to attend to the affected sections along M1 road and China civil engineering Construction Corporation along M5 road.
Champiti said the authority is conducting a rapid condition assessment and identifying routes where feasible to facilitate temporary traffic diversion during the restoring period.
