579 stolen relief Maize recovered
Police at Liwonde in Machinga district have recovered 579 bags of relief maize meant for cyclone Freddy survivors that were stolen by ward councilor for Mlomba ward Alexander Cosmas of Democratic Progressive Party last week
According to Liwonde police station publicist sergeant Ngwashape Nsume the police have recovered them at Namwera in Mangochi district where he offered them for sale
Out of the 579 bags recovered 513 bags were recovered at Namwera in Mangochi where he sold and 66 were found in the truck while 9 bags are yet to be recovered
Ngwashape said the complaint filed at Liwonde police station indicates that Cosmas received 588 bags of maize meant for cyclone Freddy victims in his area
Instead of taking the maize to intended beneficiaries he diverted the whole track that carried them and sold the maize
