30 percent fail to register in phase 3 Voter Registration
Preliminary figures from Malawi Electoral Commission show that 30 out of every 100 eligible voters failed to register in third phase of voter registration
In a public notice the commission says 2 million five hundred fifteen thousand three hundred fifteen people were registered against the projected number of three million five hundred seventy one thousand two hundred seventy six people representing 70 percent of registered voters
Chief elections officer Andrew Mpesi says out of the registered number one million and 97 thousand five hundred fifty one are male while one million four hundred and seventeen thousand seven hundred sixty four are female
Mpesi says 65 percent of the projected male population registered while 75 percent of the projected female population has registered
However, the commission has cautioned the public on the use of the preliminary figures since the data has not been cleaned therefore may slightly change if duplicate registrations are discovered.
