World Relief embarks on rehabilitation initiative for cyclones survivors
World Relief has embarked on relief and rehabilitation initiative targeting survivors of cyclones Ana and Gombe
Speaking after distributing relief items to survivors of cyclones in Machinga district world relief coordinator Akim Kamwendo said the organization responded to the council’s call for assistance to households who were hit hard
Kamwendo said it was the second time for world relief to donate relief and rehabilitation items this year to people affected by tropical storm Ana and Gombe in the area of Traditional Authority Mtumbwinda
“My organisation will keep on supporting the victims until they recover because world relief will make consultation with donors to increase the donation,” Kamwendo
Machinga district council spokesperson Martin Chiwanda expressed gratitude for the organization’s gesture saying it came at the right time as the district is looking for support to meet basic needs of the affected population
Chiwanda said government relies on non-governmental organisations in difficult times and advised the beneficiaries not to sell the donation
Traditional Authority TA Ntumbwinda concurred with Chiwanda saying the victims were desperately looking for support as most of them lost all properties
“I appeal to district council and other well-wishers to support his people as the number of victims has increased following a strong wind that occurred on Tuesday night which affected 30 households,” TA Ntumbwinda
In total over 12000 people from 7 traditional authorities in Machinga have been heavily affected by tropical storm Ana and Gombe
