Vice president’s security detail reviewed
The vice-president has been left with seven out of the 46 security personnel to guard his official residents at area 12 in Lilongwe and Mudi House in Blantyre and his office at capital hill.
Spokesperson of Chilima Pirirani Phiri confirmed saying details can been given by Malawi police service MPS.
MPS spokesperson James Kadadzera said “some police personnel were transferred but refused to state the actual number for security reasons.”
Commenting on the matter political analyst Ernest Thindwa says it is disrespect to the rule of law the review of the security detail of vice president.
“This act should be condemned in strongest terms,” Thindwa stressed.
However, he has asked the veep to step down because it is not right for him to continue saving government which he accuses of corruption.
The review of vice president security personnel comes after Chilima launched United Transformation Movement which will contest in May 2019 tripartite elections.
Chilima resigned from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party DPP few months ago and has been saying this government is corrupt.
Some of the notable figures in the Movement are former first ladies Calista Mutharika and Shanil
Dzimbiri.
Calista had called for the resignation of president professor Peter Mutharika who is her in-law because he is old.
Some DPP MPs such as former Minister Patricia Kaliati supported Calista hence formulating Chilima Movement.
Meanwhile, speaker of Malawi national assembly Richard Msowoya and Lucious Banda of UDF have joined the Movement among others.
