Vice president concerned with delay of 30 billion kwacha rice scheme
Vice president Dr Saulos Chilima has expressed concern over the delays of the 30 billion kwacha rice scheme which is in Karonga district
Chilima said this when inspecting Nthola-Ilola-Ngosi rice irrigation scheme in the district
The delays according to Green Built Initiative is due to funding as they have only received 100 million kwacha and government has committed over 1 billion kwacha in the next fiscal year
It is expected to be completed in 5 years which Chilima says is too long and has urged the initiative to engage Ministry of economic planning and development to see how best to solve the funding woes
The vice president wants the project to be done in two years
Meanwhile Chilima told people in Mzimba that he and president Chakwera did not lie and will fulfill the promises they made during campaign
Speaking before inspecting Mzimba stadium Chilima said the delay to fulfill the promises is due to covid 19
“Whatever I and president Chakwera promised will be done therefore Malawians must not be concerned,” Chilima
He urged the citizenry to work together for the country to develop
Chilima repeated Chakwera’s appeal to politicians not to interfere in NEEF
Among other projects the vice president toured Jenda Edingeni road construction
