Veteran politician Sam Mpasu dies
The veteran politician and president of New Labour party Sam Mpasu has passed away.
Mpasu who was the former speaker of parliament, Minister and ambassador among others was found dead in his house in Blantyre on Thursday morning.
Confirming the death one of his close friends Mark Katsonga of People’s Progressive Movement party PPM said Mpasu was a very important person to the country.
Katsonga said will miss Mpasu because he was dedicated and hardworking.
“He served as the Minister of Education and Minsiter of Commerce, was secretary general of United Democratic Front in 1999. He served as a diplomat in the foreign service for the Malawi mission to Germany, he wrote a book entitled Nobody’s friend in 1975 which got him arrested because MCP regime thought that it was written about first president of Malawi,” explained Katsonga.
Meanwhile, police are yet to reveal the cause of Mpasu’s death as his body has been taken to college of medicine for postmortem.
