UTM President asks President Chakwera to fire top Officials

UTM president has asked President Lazarus Chakwera to fire top officials who have failed to end crisis that are haunting Malawians

Dr Dalitso Kabambe was addressing journalists following Chakwera’s state of national address on fuel crisis, food shortage, voter registration and political violence

Chakwera announced the transition from open tender system to a government to government G to G Policy that will make access to fuel more secure through better payment terms and cycles.

The president said he had instituted a coordinating committee to facilitate and execute all aspects of the G to G Policy and as a first step to implement the arrangement he has accepted an invitation from president of United Arab Emirates UAE to discuss long term fuel security of Malawi

On hunger the president said Malawi is facing 87 billion kwacha deficit to meet the 347 billion kwacha target to feed 5.7 million Malawians until March next year

On political violence Chakwera joined former presidents on condemning the act citing intimidation of demonstrators among others.

Reacting to the president’s speech Kabambe described Chakwera’s speech as a shame adding he should admit that his government has failed.

Therefore he asked the president to fire Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, Dr Wilson Banda, Minister of finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, Agriculture minister, Sam Kawale, Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola and inspector of Police Marylyn Yolamu for failing to address the crises

He described the speech as shame saying his government has turned Malawians to beggars as they are struggling with numerous challenges.

Kabambe says whenever his party notes that things are not going the way they should be he will call for demonstrations and blamed the president for failing to timely condemn thugs who disrupted protests twice in Lilongwe this month alone.

On economy Kabambe says for Malawi to address foreign currency crisis, she has to review the fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policies which are wrong.

Commenting on the president’s speech economic expert Adam Chikapa Gaisi has expressed no hope for Malawi’s economy to heal.

Gaisi warns that the G to G policy might be costly as it will involve one bidder who can monopolise the industry

According to Chikapa, the best solution to Malawi economic challenges is to intensify production of goods and services that would attract foreign currency and president should minimize travels as part of austerity measures.
